Mrs. Arakelyan's Essay Entry Contest
• Grades 6: In your opinion, what African American has made the greatest contribution to our society? Why?
• Grades 7-8: Think of a present day African American in your community, the state, or the nation who you consider to be a role model and describe why you feel this person is a good role model.
The essay must be 3 paragraphs, double spaced, typed, should have few or no grammatical errors, and must be honestly and creatively written. No hand written essays will be accepted.
Art work created by you must be in color and attached to the essay.
The deadline to submit is Friday, February 26th, 2010.
First place winner gets $25 master card gift card.
Second place winner gets $15 Starbucks card.
Third place winner gets $10 Coldstone gift card.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS
To be eligible for Promotion and to participate in ANY Promotional Activity, students MUST have met a minimum standard by completing 100 CREDITS. In addition, a student may NOT have earned more than four U's in Citizenship on the total eighth grade semester marks and NO MORE than 2 U's may be earned in the spring semester. Students may NOT have earned more than 2 F’s on their final 8th grade report card. Students who do not meet the minimum eligibility standards will receive FINAL NOTIFICATION by June 12, 2009. Several parent letters, notices, or telephone calls have already been made from our Counseling Office to communicate to you IF your child is in danger of not meeting any of the District or school's eligibility standards to participate in ANY promotional activity.

OTHER STANDARDS
Students must have cleared all debts, such as library fines, lost textbooks, and turned in all outstanding money from any fundraising efforts. All items that have been loaned to students must be returned, such as uniforms or musical instruments. Students who have not completed all other eligibility standards will NOT participate in any promotional activity, including the Promotion Ceremony. Serious disciplinary circumstances will also result in the loss of participating in any end-of-year promotional activities, including the Promotional Ceremony.
